Made some neat tools for creating procedural cliffs/rocks, and I wanted to test them out, so I decided, perhaps unwisely, to attempt a scene inspired by the Faroe Islands. Definitely want to do a further exploration of this in the future, as I think I could push the realism a bit further, but alas I didn't have it within me today. The water was probably the most challenging part, and particularly the interactions with the rocks at the base of the cliffs. I want to develop a workflow that can get realistic whitewater effects, but still work for animation, so I'll definitely need to revisit this in the future.
Special thanks to Mr Aaron Westwood as well as some folks on my Discord server for providing their feedback on my WIPs
Cheers!
Example of the Procedural Cliff "Growth" process on a small segment of the main environment. These mesh quite well onto the larger terrain so this seems to me to be the ideal workflow for such features. I got the idea from Hydra Studios' rock solver.
